Lahden Palvelutori

The Lahti Palvelutori Service Centre, located in the Trio shopping centre in Lahti, Finland, brings together customer services from the City of Lahti, the wellbeing services region, and several other public and private operators under one roof. The centre needed more space for customer service and staff work, without major construction. The solution was sound‑insulated workrooms that could be installed directly into existing spaces.

Flexible space solutions without permanent construction

The Lahti Palvelutori Service Centre wanted to make better use of its existing floor space while increasing the number of workstations in a flexible way. As part of the renovation, Octacell delivered and installed 27 sound‑insulated workrooms.

The delivery included several types of workrooms, including phone booths, meeting rooms, and sound-insulated workrooms for staff use. A significant part of the project consisted of customer service rooms tailored to the needs of the Service Centre and designed to meet the requirements of public service environments.

Different workroom sizes made it possible to integrate the spaces into the existing layout and support different types of use.

Demanding requirements and phased installation

Because the Service Centre operates in a public shopping center environment, the project had to meet strict fire safety requirements. These requirements guided the implementation from the beginning. All Octacell workrooms meet the standards required for commercial public environments.

Installation took place in three phases, one area at a time. This allowed the Service Centre to continue operations throughout the process. Only the sections under construction were temporarily closed.

Functionality and accessibility in daily use

The delivered sound-insulated workrooms support everyday customer service situations where privacy and data protection are essential. Sound-insulated workrooms provide a protected environment for confidential conversations in a busy shopping center setting. Adjustable lighting and efficient ventilation improve user comfort.

Some customer service rooms have separate doors for customers and staff, and the staff door can be used as a second exit if needed.

Accessibility was a key part of the design. The largest workrooms have accessible entrances and enough space for wheelchairs and other mobility aids.

Smooth collaboration from planning to installation

The collaboration between the Lahti Service Centre and Octacell covered the entire process from initial planning to final installation. Octacell’s expertise helped identify effective solutions for a demanding public environment, and the project progressed smoothly from design to installation.

“The cooperation has been open and smooth at every level, from sales and space planning to installation and collaboration with other stakeholders. Expertise and agile ideation in the design process played a significant role in the success of the space renovation.”
