Flexible workspaces without advance booking

Academic Work already had several bookable meeting rooms of different sizes and private spaces for individual work. However, employees also needed spaces for calls and video meetings without making a reservation.

In spring 2024, the company purchased six Octacell 2X1 soundproof phone booths to meet this need.

An office renovation brought new needs

Academic Work’s office renovation involved significant changes to both the layout and the way the workplace was used. Previously, the company and its three sister companies had occupied separate spaces across four floors.

The goal was to bring teams closer together, encourage collaboration, and create areas for different types of work, from quiet, focused work to collaborative brainstorming.

Following an extensive renovation, the office now spans two floors connected by a large, open amphitheater-style staircase. This creates a greater sense of space and connection between the floors.

As part of the renovation, Academic Work also reconsidered how it would use its Octacell rooms. Instead of spaces primarily intended for quick calls, the company wanted slightly larger, high-quality private workrooms suitable for longer periods of focused work.

From phone booths to workrooms

After more than two years of daily use, the six existing Octacell 2X1 phone booths were reconfigured into two larger 2X2 workrooms as part of the office renovation in summer 2026. All surface finishes were also updated to match the new office interior.

Thanks to Octacell’s scalable design, Academic Work was able to adapt its existing rooms to a new purpose instead of replacing them.

Workrooms for everyday focus

The Octacell rooms remain an important part of daily office life at Academic Work. Following the reconfiguration, they offer more space for individual work and longer periods of concentration.

Employee feedback has been very positive, particularly regarding the sound insulation, effective ventilation, and lighting.
